Geography of everydayness as a space for rethinking scientific knowledge
The edited monography Geografie „okrajem“: Každodenní časoprostorové zkušenosti (Geography by ‘the Edge’: Everyday Spatiotemporal Experiences) is a collection of 11 articles analyzing hetero-geneous spatiotemporal experience. The authors, who are based not only in geography, but also in sociology and anthropology, are interested primarily in mundane everyday ex-perience that is not easily captured either by quantitative methods or by a map, which still dominates the Czech human geography. The book offers two ways of dealing with “an edge”. Firstly, it shows that an experience that seems marginal at the first sight concerns the majority as well, and thus challenges the duality of the core and the edge. Secondly, the book discusses situations when the edge stimulates geographical imagination, because dis-tinct objects of analysis bring along the need for different methodological, theoretical, and analytical approaches, questioning thus the underpinning of the Czech human geography based on the positivist, universalist and seemingly neutral notions of space and time.
