Michal Synek has studied religious studies at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University. In the framework of his doctoral sociological research project he explores relations between various repertoires of caring and modes of ordering dis/ability. At the Centre of Expertise in Longevity and Long-term Care of the Faculty of Humanities of the Charles University he is a member of a team researching case management for people living with dementia and at the Centre for Theoretical Study of the Charles University and Czech Academy of Sciences he explores performativity of paperwork under the leadership of Zdeněk Konopásek. He is interested in theoretical problems with practical impact at the crossroads of science and technology studies, disability studies and relational ethics of care. He translates from English, especially texts from religious studies and STS. He is a consultant in the fields of social services and deinstitutionalization, and an advisor to self-advocates.
